Sheila Busheri, MT, CLS, CCL
Chief Executive Officer

Sheila Busheri is the founder and CEO of Universal Diagnostic Laboratories (UDL). With over 30 years of laboratory management experience, she has successfully grown UDL, as an entirely independent laboratory, at a rate of 20% per year since its inception in 1998.

Prior to UDL, she held the position as Operations Manager for SmithKline Beecham Laboratories, Van Nuys, CA from 1990-1997 where she was responsible for the overall operation of the laboratory and specimen workflow. She successfully improved logistical workflow elements and formed an inter-department collaboration team resulting in 30% improved productivity for the laboratory. From 1988-1991, she was the Supervisor, Toxicology Department for Unilab, Tarzana, CA, where she improved methodologies for improved turnaround time and quality control. She also was instrumental in getting NIDA certification for the laboratory’s NIDA department. She served as Manager, Clinical Laboratory at Nemazee Hospital, Shirza, Iran from 1984-1986 where she successfully improved the laboratory’s overall productivity.

Sheila holds a Master of Science in Technology Management from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Science, Medical Technology from Pahlavi University. She is a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Clinical Chemist Scientist.

 

Safedin Sajo Beqaj, PhD, HCLD, CC (ABB)
Laboratory Director

Dr. Sajo Beqaj is board certified in molecular diagnostics and licensed as a Bioanalyst and High Complexity Laboratory Director. He has been practicing as a laboratory director since 2005.

Prior to UDL, he served from 2011-2016 as a technical director and principal investigator at Pathology, Inc. Torrance, California. During this time, Dr. Beqaj was responsible for building a successful and efficient clinical laboratory that was later acquired by LabCorp.  From 2008-2011 he served as  Laboratory Director for Clinical Pathology at DCL Medical Laboratories, Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was responsible for clinical technical operations including development and implementation of new tests and technologies. He held the position of Laboratory Director in molecular diagnostics for Path Group Labs, Nashville, Tennessee from 2005-2008. Prior to his clinical experience, he was a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois until 2005.

Dr. Baqaj received his Ph.D. in Pathology from Wayne State University Medical School, Detroit, Michigan. He performed his post-doctoral fellowship at Abbott Laboratories from 2001-2003.

Dr. Beqaj has taught in several academic institutions and has published numerous medical textbook chapters and journal articles. He has conducted clinical trials for several well-known pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies, and has presented various scientific clinical abstracts and presentations. He is a member of several medical and scientific associations including the Association of Molecular Pathology, American Association of Clinical Chemistry and the Pan Am Society for Clinical Virology. He has served on a number of clinical laboratory regulatory and scientific committees, and has assisted several laboratories and physicians as a Clinical Laboratory Consultant.

VP, Laboratory & Scientific Affairs

Christine Nyght is a professional laboratory and quality assurance manager with over 20 years of administrative experience in the development and implementation of Quality Systems, Operational Excellence, and management responsibility in the biotech and healthcare sector. She is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Dr. Nyght gained her extensive Quality Systems and management expertise through a variety of positions beginning with her most recent as Quality Assurance Manager for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. She was responsible for the development and administration of the laboratory’s Continuous Process Improvement Program and its ISO-based Quality Systems, which resulted in an excellent accreditation record for the laboratory. She has also provided similar services and results serving as Laboratory and/or Quality Assurance Director for various laboratories in northern and southern California including Sutter Health, Berkeley Heartlab, Quest Diagnostics (Unilab Corporation) and in Collegeville, Pennsylvania for Smithkline Beecham.

In addition, Dr. Nyght has an extensive background in the Clinical Trials sector with Pathway Diagnostics (Quest Diagnostics) and Loma Linda Medical University. She was responsible for managing the Clinical Trials Laboratories, including GLP/GCP (ICH/FDA), IRB, OSHA and ISO-compliant, GxP standards servicing multiple top-tier biopharmaceutical clients. She directed biomarker validations, developed personnel training, and instrument qualification.

Dr. Nyght received her PhD from Arizona State University. She holds a MBA from Grand Canyon University and a BS in Biology from Northern Illinois University. She has performed post-graduate training in Lean Management, and GxP. She is a member of several laboratory and regulatory affairs societies, has served on a number of clinical laboratory regulatory and scientific committees, and presented various conference workshops. She is also an Inspector for the College of American Pathologists.

 

william_templeWilliam W. Temple, M.D.
Chief Pathologist

William W. Temple, M.D. is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist who has spent over thirty years serving in laboratory director, medical director, and chief pathologist roles with laboratories and hospitals throughout the Los Angeles, California area. He has been responsible for successfully initiating and maintaining CLIA and CAP certifications along with J.C.A.H. certification, initiating extensive and ongoing molecular pathology adoption into laboratory workflow, overseeing and monitoring daily laboratory activities, and providing support to physician clientele.

Dr. Temple is active in the California Society of Pathologists and the College of American Pathology where he serves as a laboratory inspector. He has also authored several publications in his areas of clinical interest and has presented on conference platforms.

He received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus, Ohio and completed his residency in pathology at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center.
